The Apartment

Its own terrace, its own front door

Occupying the ground floor of the main house, the Terrace Apartment has an open-plan living and dining area, a fully equipped kitchen complete with a serving hatch, and a sunny, south-facing private terrace of its own. A clean simplicity runs through every room, giving the apartment a timeless elegance that is both practical and comfortable.

Two bedrooms and one bathroom sleep up to four guests, making the apartment a natural choice for a couple travelling with friends or family, or as part of a larger group taking the whole house.

The apartment shares the same remarkable setting as the rest of Rock House, with spectacular panoramic views over Edinburgh from its elevated position on Calton Hill, reached via the Calton Steps, just a few minutes’ walk from Princes Street.

Built in the 1750s, Rock House is reputed to be one of the oldest houses in Edinburgh’s New Town. It came to worldwide fame as the home of the artist and pioneering photographer David Octavius Hill, who in 1843 developed the calotype process here with the engineer Robert Adamson, founding the first photography studio in Scotland. The house remained a working photographer’s studio from the 1840s until the 1950s, and has since been carefully renovated.

The location is hard to beat. Old Town and New Town landmarks, including Edinburgh Castle, sit within easy walking distance, and both the airport tram stop and Waverley station are a five minute walk away. Secure public parking is available at the OMNI Centre a few minutes from the door.
